Great service provided and very reasonable prices offered after having to buy and install a new AC Unit! After several days since we installed the new AC unit by Dr HVAC everything has been running great and the house has been very cool even with the scorching hot weather this summer! As such, we decided to call and schedule another appointment to have maintenance done with cleaning up our coil indoors and they provided great services once again! 2026 Update: After a couple years, we noticed that our indoor AC Unit wasn't running consistent. Sometimes the AC would blow cold air and sometimes it wouldn't. We called Dr HVAC Inc since they helped with the outdoor installation the last time around and they found out that the motor for the indoor unit was blown out and not working. Amine told us he would order a newer model for the indoor AC unit and get his team on it right away. In less than 2 days, he got the new parts ordered from out of the state and worked tirelessly to replace our old unit before the heat wave approached over the weekend. Not only that, but they also replaced our outdated Water heater unit all in the same day since we had a ongoing leak issue. Amine and his team did a FANTASTIC job overall! Their work was Professional and Precise throughout the day. We are thankful for their dedicated hard work and highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable HVAC services!Posted on Google![]()

Dr. HVAC saved the day!! My husband and I are recent homebuyers, and we were crushed when our AC stopped working right before the summer heat. From the very first consultation, Dr. HVAC and his team were responsive, professional, informative, and incredibly reassuring. They gave us a fast installation timeline and a very reasonable price for a full system replacement. After the installation, they also identified that our home’s piping was outdated and could affect the performance of the new unit. To protect our investment, they came back the very next day and repiped the house. Everything was completed neatly, efficiently, and with great attention to detail. The level of professionalism, care, and follow-through we experienced was outstanding from start to finish. I truly have no complaints and would absolutely recommend Dr. HVAC to anyone in need of HVAC services. We’re so grateful we found them!Posted on Google![]()

Amine and his team delivered quality customer service and equipment installation. My whole HVAC system was outdated and he gave me a no-filter and straight to the point evaluation of what was going on with no fluff. With the heat coming in and having no AC he prioritized my home’s HVAC replacement and followed through with his work in only 3 days! Looking at other HVAC contractors and receiving their quotes for the same work, Dr HVAC had the most competitive pricing and provided a premium service! The team was very polite, professional, and worked efficiently in ensuring no mess was left in my home and completing their work in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr HVAC for everyone, their hustle and dedication to ensuring the customer is fully comfortable and satisfied with their needs is like no other.Posted on Google![]()

Six Warning Signs You Need AC Repair in Northern Virginia
Energy Bills Keep Rising
A sudden rise in electricity costs may mean your AC is working harder than normal. Worn parts, dirty coils, and airflow problems can reduce system efficiency.
Strange Sounds During Operation
Don't ignore grinding, buzzing, rattling, or squealing sounds. These noises may point to loose parts, electrical trouble, or a failing motor.
Unusual Smells From Vents
Musty smells may come from moisture, mold, or a blocked drain. Burning odors can signal an electrical problem that needs quick professional attention.
Indoor Humidity Stays High
Your AC should remove some moisture while cooling your property. High indoor humidity may indicate poor airflow, incorrect system sizing, or a cooling problem.

Long cooling cycles can increase energy use and strain important parts. The system may have dirty coils, low refrigerant, duct leaks, or weak airflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does AC repair cost in Northern Virginia?
AC repair costs depend on the failed part, system type, equipment age, and service time. Our detailed AC repair cost guide explains common repair ranges, while diagnostic service currently starts at $105. After inspecting the system, the technician explains the problem and provides repair options before approved work begins. Confirm current pricing when booking.
What is the most common AC repair?
Capacitor replacement is one of the most common AC repairs, but clogged drains, failed contactors, dirty coils, and thermostat faults are also frequent. Because several failures cause similar symptoms, a technician should test the system instead of replacing parts based only on a guess. Testing protects the system and your budget.
What is the $5,000 rule for AC repair?
The $5,000 rule is a rough guide for repair versus replacement. Multiply the AC age by the repair cost. A result above $5,000 may support replacement, but it is not a final rule. Warranty coverage, system condition, refrigerant type, efficiency, and repair history also matter. A load and comfort review may change the answer.
Why is my AC running but not cooling my property?
An AC that runs but does not cool may have a dirty filter, frozen coil, refrigerant leak, failed outdoor fan, weak compressor, or duct problem. Check the thermostat and filter first. If warm air continues, turn the system off if ice is present and schedule a professional diagnosis. Running it while frozen can damage the compressor.
Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?
Repair may make sense when the AC is newer, reliable, covered by warranty, and has a limited fault. Replacement may offer better value when major parts fail, breakdowns repeat, or the system is old and inefficient. A proper comparison should include repair cost, remaining life, and comfort needs. Ask for both options in writing.
What should I check before calling for AC repair?
Before calling, set the thermostat to cool, lower the setpoint, check the filter, and confirm the breaker has not tripped. Make sure supply vents are open and the outdoor unit is clear. Do not open electrical panels or handle refrigerant. If the system still fails, arrange professional AC repair. Share any sounds, smells, or leaks you noticed.
Is adding refrigerant enough when my AC has a leak?
No. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak is usually a temporary fix because a sealed AC system should not regularly lose refrigerant. A technician should locate the leak, assess whether it can be repaired, and explain the cost. The system can then be charged to the correct level after the repair.
When is an AC problem considered an emergency?
An AC problem is an emergency when extreme heat creates a health risk, the system gives off a burning smell, breakers keep tripping, or water threatens the property. Turn the unit off if you notice smoke, electrical odors, severe noise, or heavy leaking, then request emergency AC repair immediately.
How long does an AC repair appointment usually take?
Many AC diagnostic visits take about one to two hours, but the full repair time depends on the fault, system access, parts, and testing needs. Simple electrical repairs may be completed during the visit. Refrigerant leaks, coil failures, or compressor problems can require more time or a return appointment.
Does DR HVAC Inc provide 24/7 AC repair near me?
Yes. DR HVAC Inc provides 24/7 AC repair across Northern Virginia for homes and light-commercial properties. The service area includes Dumfries, Woodbridge, and nearby Prince William County communities. Availability and arrival times depend on location, call volume, weather, and current scheduling.
