My outdoor A/C unit stopped working on a day with 100° weather. The tech arrived in less than an hour after my phone call. Problems were diagnosed and resolved, and my house was cooling again in 45 minutes. This was exceptional. I appreciate the quick response, fair prices, and the effort on such a hot day.

Great service provided and very reasonable prices offered after having to buy and install a new AC Unit! After several days since we installed the new AC unit by Dr HVAC everything has been running great and the house has been very cool even with the scorching hot weather this summer! As such, we decided to call and schedule another appointment to have maintenance done with cleaning up our coil indoors and they provided great services once again! 2026 Update: After a couple years, we noticed that our indoor AC Unit wasn't running consistent. Sometimes the AC would blow cold air and sometimes it wouldn't. We called Dr HVAC Inc since they helped with the outdoor installation the last time around and they found out that the motor for the indoor unit was blown out and not working. Amine told us he would order a newer model for the indoor AC unit and get his team on it right away. In less than 2 days, he got the new parts ordered from out of the state and worked tirelessly to replace our old unit before the heat wave approached over the weekend. Not only that, but they also replaced our outdated Water heater unit all in the same day since we had a ongoing leak issue. Amine and his team did a FANTASTIC job overall! Their work was Professional and Precise throughout the day. We are thankful for their dedicated hard work and highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable HVAC services!

Dr. HVAC saved the day!! My husband and I are recent homebuyers, and we were crushed when our AC stopped working right before the summer heat. From the very first consultation, Dr. HVAC and his team were responsive, professional, informative, and incredibly reassuring. They gave us a fast installation timeline and a very reasonable price for a full system replacement. After the installation, they also identified that our home’s piping was outdated and could affect the performance of the new unit. To protect our investment, they came back the very next day and repiped the house. Everything was completed neatly, efficiently, and with great attention to detail. The level of professionalism, care, and follow-through we experienced was outstanding from start to finish. I truly have no complaints and would absolutely recommend Dr. HVAC to anyone in need of HVAC services. We’re so grateful we found them!

Amine and his team delivered quality customer service and equipment installation. My whole HVAC system was outdated and he gave me a no-filter and straight to the point evaluation of what was going on with no fluff. With the heat coming in and having no AC he prioritized my home’s HVAC replacement and followed through with his work in only 3 days! Looking at other HVAC contractors and receiving their quotes for the same work, Dr HVAC had the most competitive pricing and provided a premium service! The team was very polite, professional, and worked efficiently in ensuring no mess was left in my home and completing their work in a timely manner. I highly recommend Dr HVAC for everyone, their hustle and dedication to ensuring the customer is fully comfortable and satisfied with their needs is like no other.

Common Furnace Problems in Northern Virginia Homes and Commercial Buildings

Common Furnace Problems in Northern Virginia Homes and Commercial Buildings

Best AC Repair Company in County Center, VA

Furnace Will Not Start

A furnace that will not start can leave your home or business without heat. Thermostat settings, power issues, and ignition faults may be the cause. A technician checks the system before recommending repairs.

Burners Shut Off Early

Burners that light and quickly go out may have a flame-sensing problem. Longer cycles followed by shutdowns can indicate overheating or restricted airflow. Repeated interruptions can affect comfort in living areas and workspaces.

Uneven or Insufficient Heating

Cold bedrooms, offices, or customer areas may point to airflow restrictions, duct leaks, or control problems. The furnace itself may also need attention. Checking both equipment and air distribution helps identify the cause.

Unusual Furnace Noises

Scraping, squealing, or banging sounds can signal loose parts, worn blower components, or ignition trouble. These noises deserve attention in residential and commercial systems. Shut the furnace off if the sounds are severe and arrange service.

Choosing a Furnace for Your Northern Virginia Home or Business

Correct Heating Capacity

Furnace sizing should reflect the building’s heating load. Insulation, windows, air leakage, and floor area all matter. For commercial spaces, occupancy and ventilation needs also influence equipment selection.

Gas or Electric Heating

Your available utilities and existing setup help determine suitable options. Gas furnaces need appropriate fuel connections and venting. Electric furnaces require enough electrical capacity. Installation costs and local energy rates affect the comparison.

Ductwork and Airflow

A new furnace needs ductwork that can distribute heated air effectively. Leaks, restrictions, and poor return airflow can leave rooms uncomfortable. Checking the ducts before installation helps identify necessary improvements.

Controls and Operating Schedules

Homes, offices, and customer areas have different heating schedules. Compatible thermostats and suitable zoning can help manage those needs. Controls should match the furnace and support how the property is used.

About Northern Virginia and the Properties We Serve

Northern Virginia brings together residential neighborhoods, office buildings, shops, and other commercial spaces. These properties have different heating demands. These properties have different heating demands. A household may need steady warmth throughout the evening, while a business needs comfortable temperatures during operating hours.

Older properties can present installation challenges, including limited equipment access and existing ductwork that needs attention. Newer buildings also need correctly sized furnaces and compatible controls. Understanding the property helps guide furnace repairs and equipment selection.

DR HVAC Inc serves Northern Virginia from offices in Dumfries and Woodbridge. We help homeowners and businesses address furnace problems and plan new installations. Our team explains the work, discusses pricing, and answers your questions before you approve service.

Frequently Asked Questions

A furnace repair quote depends on the failed component, equipment model, and labor required. Replacing an ignitor usually involves different work from replacing a blower motor. Ask DR HVAC Inc to separate diagnostic charges from the approved repair price and explain any parts warranty before work starts.

Your furnace installation estimate should identify the model, heating capacity, efficiency rating, and labor. It should also explain old equipment removal, thermostat compatibility, venting, and any duct or electrical changes. Ask which items are included and which could add to the price after the site assessment.

Existing ducts can often stay if their condition and airflow capacity suit the new furnace. Leaks, restrictive sections, or undersized return ducts may need correction. Replacing equipment without checking air distribution can leave rooms uncomfortable. Ask for a duct assessment before approving your installation.

A failed blower motor does not automatically mean you need a new furnace. Compare the total repair cost, warranty coverage, heat exchanger condition, and breakdown history. A sound furnace with an isolated motor fault may justify repair. Multiple expensive problems can make replacement worth considering.

Commercial furnace sizing depends on heat loss, ventilation needs, occupancy, and operating hours, not floor area alone. Offices and customer areas may also need separate temperature controls. Before installation, have the contractor assess the building and existing ducts rather than simply match the old furnace.

Furnace replacement time depends on equipment access and the changes needed for ductwork, venting, fuel connections, or electrical supply. A direct replacement generally involves less work than a system conversion. Ask for a property-specific schedule that includes testing and how long your heating will be unavailable.

Schedule professional furnace maintenance once a year, preferably before the heating season begins. A preseason visit can include checking thermostat operation, electrical connections, burners, combustion, the heat exchanger, airflow, and safety controls. Homeowners should also inspect the filter regularly and clean or replace it when it’s dirty.

Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency, or AFUE, measures how much of the furnace’s fuel becomes useful heat over a heating season. For example, a 90% AFUE rating means approximately 90% becomes usable heat under standardized testing. AFUE does not account for electricity used by the blower or heat lost through ductwork, so installation quality and airflow still matter.

Consider replacement when an older furnace needs frequent repairs, energy costs are increasing, or it can no longer heat the property consistently. ENERGY STAR identifies furnaces over 15 years old as candidates for replacement evaluation, but age alone should not determine the decision. Compare equipment condition, repair history, warranty coverage, efficiency, and the complete replacement estimate.

Move everyone outside into fresh air immediately, call 911 or the fire department, and account for every person in the property. Do not re-enter until emergency responders say it is safe. If the furnace is identified as the source, do not operate it again until qualified personnel inspect and service it.

Permit requirements depend on the jurisdiction, furnace type, location, and installation scope. For example, Prince William County identifies certain same-type electric furnace replacements in the same location as permit-exempt, while gas or oil furnace replacement and work involving system alterations may require permits. Confirm requirements with the authority serving your address before installation and identify permit responsibility in the written proposal.
